PALM student Michael Mohr competed at the USATF Region 4 Junior Olympics Cross Country Championship in Fayetteville, Georgia Nov. 18. Michael will be going on to the USATF Nationals in Tallahassee FL. in December. He was the only runner from Myrtle Beach Track and Field Club to qualify at regionals to move onto Nationals.
Keith Ferrell’s Motorsports Technology classes spent their class period at the Myrtle Beach Speedway watching teams prep for the Myrtle Beach 400. Steve Zacharias and the Myrtle Beach Speedway staff were very accommodating allowing students to observe the teams move through tech inspections and other setups. Also a special appreciation to Mike Rankin , Rankin Race Engines , Justin Hicks , Big Ed Edward Williams and Barry Elvis for their time. These 13-17 year old students are being exposed to the real aspects of the motorsports industry thus giving them a one-of-a-kind educational experience.
Dr. Maxey along with administrative personnel from the Horry County School District as well as a member of the Horry County Board of Education made a visit to PALM Charter High School Wednesday 11/15/17. PALM students provided a tour of the vocational and academic programs detailing the uniqueness of each class. We appreciate all the support and guidance that Dr. Maxey and HCS share with us as we continue to provide Horry County students with a one- of- a- kind educational experience.

PALM wishes to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, pit crew, friends, and fans of Jackie Ward of Surfside Beach, SC. “I’m not sure if Jackie ever won a race, but his excitement, spirit and enthusiasm would lead everyone to believe he won every week,” Myrtle Beach Speedway racer Keith Ferrell expressed. “Jackie was a true friend and ultimate fan of the sport and to talk with him you would find that out pretty fast. That black 3 car was a true staple of Myrtle Beach Speedway. Not seeing Jackie roll in every week with it will leave a true void.”

Students from Keith Ferrell’s Motorsports Technology classes hit the track at Southern Kartway this past Thursday November 2nd. Students were able to gain invaluable experience as they practiced with the karts as well as the necessity to work as a team. PALM would like to thank Danny Prince at Southern Kartway and his generosity for allowing us to use the track at no expense. His love of students is evident.
